Custom storefronts, Hydrogen & Shopify architecture
Headless Shopify with a reason behind the build.
A headless store separates the customer-facing website from the commerce system behind it. We plan and develop custom storefronts that use Shopify for commerce, with clear decisions about content management, integrations, performance and the ongoing work of maintaining the experience.

The starting point
Choose the architecture around the experience.
A well-built Shopify theme is the right starting point for many stores. Headless becomes worth considering when a particular buying experience, content model or set of digital channels needs more control. We compare the options against your requirements and total running cost before proposing a separate frontend.

01Headless Shopify
Establish whether headless fits
Compare the required experience with what a Shopify theme and supported extensions can deliver.
Work through the catalogue, editorial content, regional needs and customer journeys with your team. Identify the specific limitations a custom storefront would address. The recommendation considers developer support and future changes alongside the initial build, so the decision is based on more than a design preference.
02Headless Shopify
Plan the storefront and content model
Define how Shopify, your frontend and any content tools work together.
Choose an approach such as Hydrogen or another suitable framework around the project requirements. Map product data, content ownership, previews and publishing, and check how existing apps will behave outside a theme. Agree who can change what without relying on a developer for every update.

03Headless Shopify
Build the buying journey
Develop the customer experience and connect it to the supported commerce functions.
Implement product discovery, variant selection, basket behaviour and the checkout handoff. Design for small screens and keyboard use, and test caching and loading behaviour with representative content. Search visibility, redirects and measurement belong in the build brief rather than being left for the final week.
04Headless Shopify
Release and support the whole setup
Validate the storefront and give each system a clear operating owner.
Test content publishing, product changes and orders end to end. Agree release checks, monitoring and fallback steps, then document how the team handles daily edits and incidents. Review performance after launch using real visits and devices instead of assuming that a headless architecture is automatically faster.
Four stages. Clear accountability.
From finding the issue
to putting it right.
Agree the work, carry it through and check the result. Each stage has a clear purpose.
Understand
Get to know the business, review the detail and find the underlying issues.
Prioritise
Agree the scope, commercial priorities and the order of work.
Implement
Make the changes, check the detail and put the work into use.
Review
Look at what changed and agree the next practical improvement.
Headless Shopify
Your questions.
Clear answers.
Is headless Shopify always faster?
No. Performance depends on how the frontend is built, hosted and connected, as well as the images and scripts it loads. We set a practical performance brief and test the result; architecture alone does not guarantee speed.
Can we still use Shopify to manage the business?
Yes. Shopify remains the commerce system behind the custom storefront. The project defines how products, orders and other information connect to that experience, and whether a separate content system is useful for your team.
Will our existing Shopify apps work?
Some apps provide APIs or headless support; others depend on theme components. We review essential apps before choosing the architecture and include any replacement or integration work in the scope.
Do we need Shopify Plus for a headless project?
The requirements depend on the features, hosting and channels you need. We check the appropriate plan and available capabilities during discovery instead of assuming every headless store needs the same setup.
The wider picture
More capability.
Less overhead.
Development, marketplace management, advertising and reporting are often spread across several people or suppliers. We bring the work together to reduce duplication, cut coordination time and help lower your existing overhead.
